Throughout the ages, bow hunting was established as an effective way to harvest game animals like wild boars. In bow hunting, many prefer a weapon with the heaviest pull weight as this penetrates deeper. It also has the right trajectory and is considered the most comfortable to handle. Getting a clean shot, however, should prove a challenge, especially at the sight of charging boars and under the shaking hands of a bow hunter.

A couple of things to take note when going wild boar bow hunting:

  • Bows recommended include the long bow, the crossbow and the compound bow.
  • The hunting arrow most recommended is the elongated kind, its hunting head placed on one end and fletching on the other end.
  • The weight of the bow draw should be a minimum of about 40 lbs.
  • The bow hunter may use any battery powered accessories, if needed. These are some of the acceptable ones: clock, cameras, hand warmers, sight pins.
  • Arrows must have sturdy shafts regardless of its grain weight.
  • The arrow’s length strongly influences the bow’s pull weight.
  • It is important to consider the pull weight of a bow as this may affect a hunter’s aim.

Some reports indicate that when boars are hit on the chest cavity with a bow and arrow aimed at about 100 yards, immobility immediately happens less than thirty seconds. Many urban places today even successfully manage bow hunting when targeting boars and other animals (like deer) that overpopulate the area and threaten the community.

The use of bow and arrow is the safest and most effective form of hunting. Among all other weapons, a bow and arrow requires a great amount of self-discipline and concentration. Handling it is in fact a unity of the mind and the body. A bow’s accuracy makes it one of the powerful weapons a hunter can have, that is, until the arrival of hunting guns and rifles.

Although today, archery is still just as appealing mainly because this is a skill that has been part of human culture for hundreds of years. Bow hunters have proven that the arrow can become just as effective as a properly handled gun. After all, in under any circumstance, proper placement and handling is the key to successful hunting, whether it’s a simple weapon or not.
